  • Trends are key indicators that directly or indirectly affect and characterized of the look of a season.
  • This aspect is highlighted and reinforced by the the magazines, advertisements etc.




The Fad  - : 

  • Fad are Fashion of short duration that peak in popularity due to a fast rate of acceptance by the consumer but have a brief life expectancy with the tendency to become outmoded rapidly .
  • Fads are typically confined to particular social groups. 
  • They tend to begin at lower prices are not expensive to copy or produce and therefore the market gets saturated easily.

Ex. - Fluorescent colours, ripped jeans, baggy anti - fit jeans, acid - washed denim, hugs shoulder pads, parallel souls etc.











Fashion Trends vs. Fads 

  • A fad is a Fashion that is popular for a short period of time.
  • A fad can be recognized by its sudden appearance and disappearance.
  • A trend can be a fad that has withstood the test of time.

Reason of change in fashion

  • Human nature is the most important and essential driver of changing Fashion and trends. 
  • The human mind tends to become bored with available goods and services and seeks stimulation through novelty and change. 
  • Fashion is inspired by and responds to Zeitgeist meaning 'mood of a particular period of history'.
  • Every new stimulus  or  Development leads to a transformation in society. Leading to new Fashion cycles and new trends.

Dominating event- : 
(War or political events, Fashion week, Fashion Awards ceremony, Olympics, commonwealth games or IPL Cricket 🏏).

The biggest contest, the most noticeable, or the best event.  


Influence of celebrities- : 
Celebrities are the biggest influence of fashion.
To be a "celebrity" means all a cross the world people know your name very well.
(Film stars, sports person, musicians and others with wealth and power).

Celebrities can serve good effect on youth as a role models.
But some popular : film stars, sports mans and other celebrities can also give can bad and unhealthy influence.


Economic Factors- :
The global effect of devaluation of the dollar, inflation rates, international trade agreements etc.

Economic Factors include families dependent on fixed income such as social assistance programs employment insurance or seniors citizens pensions. 

Psychological Factors- :
(Self esteem, pleasing other, Acceptance, Attractive)

Psychological factor that influence consumer decisions referring to the workings of the mind motivation, learning and socialization, attitudes and beliefs.

Social Factors- :
(Occasion, material States, Religion)
Social changes are especially very important in fashion.
Social factors influencing Fashion Ex. Include cultures, lifestyle and population changes. 

Example- a small clothing manufacturer needs to create a styles the appeal to those of different cultures, especially if those cultural groups represent large enough agents of its market. 

Cultural Factors- : 
(Cultural beliefs, customs and practice and their effect on consumption).
Cultural factors include the values and ideologies of a particular community or group of individuals.

Political events and personalities- : 
(Individual factors High self - monitors, internet locus of control, High match personalities)

Historical inspiration- :
(Egyptian, Sumerian, Greek, Roman)
A good knowledge of history can help in creative as demonstrated by a famous Fashion designer. 

Geographical Factors- : 
(Natural, disaster-migration of people, climatic changes)
Are circumstances associated with a physical with a physical location which affects humans living within a specific area.

The Classic - :
 Classic enduring styles that do not become obsolete; instead reaching a plateau of acceptance continuing for a long period of time.

These shows are organized through fashion designer presenting the dress made by the designers . In this event all the group of fashion designers present their art by wearing a dress , new dress, new look by themselves. Events are not just a fashion show, there are many types like concert, .Fashion show, Corporate seminar, Demonstration, Wedding seremony, theme party work like etc.
